Facebook: Cupcakes, creeps and cousins.

Facebook: Cupcakes, creeps and cousins.

Okay this one is pretty simple.

Facebook needs no introduction [right?], it’s the brain child of the Harvard drop-out Mark Zuckerburg who named it after a small book given to freshmen which introduces them to college mates. Cool idea. So what does Facebook offer an average Karachiite like me?

  • Unwanted messages [read: frandships and no this is not a typo]:

Observe a specimen; [my mom got this-Yes she is one facebook ^__^]                                                     Hi, how are you? You look pretty, really in your dp:):):) Can we be friends..I am a decent guy. This is my number 0333….

  • Information about every bored-creative-girl-making-cupcakes-for-money

Facebook has allowed everybody with the ability to put their skills to the use. This is actually something really productive and worthwhile as any business can be set up and promoted easily. I’ve come across things such as re-embellished kola puris, handmade clutches, copywriting business and some astonishing while some weird-looking cupcakes.

Yes i'd like my face on it. NOT.

  • Khandaani scoop

Not that I’m interested in who attended my aunts-relatives’-friends’ wedding or who is going to be the next bhabhi or what my uncle’s craving. A little too much to digest. But yes, having a massive family helps you build a massive ‘list of friends’. Good luck maintaining your privacy settings!

  • Stranger syndrome

This is the most relevant in my life at the moment.

I am a freshman in college, two weeks later I’m flooded with friend requests. Many were names I hear during the attendance roll call but can barely match them with faces. The worst part is that this is now the new approach to adjusting or socializing for that matter. Not blaming the guys, I know some weird girls too and so this applies to both genders: ‘Don’t add a complete stranger. This applies to all those you have never said hi to and never will. Thanks’.

  • LCF

Has your best friend uploaded a new dp*? Or are the wedding pictures up by the time you reached home? If no, your safe.If yes, welcome to the LCF : Like Comments Fight. You see facebook is presumed to depict your social standing and popularity, which is why the hippest party will have the most comments. or the best dp** [which of course will be taken by a DSLR*** camera] will have enough likes to amaze you. are you winning the LCF?

*Dp: Display picture or profile picture is the assumed best and most edited picture of any individual. you will come across ones with model-like poses, intense pack up and unusual ‘glow’.

** Dp yet again. Think fast.

**** DSLR: The expensive looking black camera which everyones carrying one with or with photgraphic skills.Yup thats it.

Hona tha Pyar, hoa meray yaar..

Ah! Its finally here! The first glimpse of the much awaited film ‘Bol’ is here with its first track  “Hona tha pyar” sung by the soulful Atif Aslam of course , who is also playing the lead role in the film.

Bol : Hit or miss?

Bol will be Shoaib Mansoor’s second film after the very successful  “Khuda Kay liye”.  Starring the singing sensational Atif Aslam and the beautiful  Vj Mahira Khan the film is expected to  create waves and hopefully will lead the way for many more ventures of such sort.

Hadiqa Kiyani

Both these celebs have already established themselves as ‘ icons ‘ for the youth. With Atif Aslam’s immeasurable success in India, singing one hit number after another such as ‘ Tera Hone Laga Ho’ for Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani. Mahira Khan on the other hand received instant appraisal upon entering the media through MTV’s Most Wanted Show. This film has brought two fresh and most talked about faces. All that is left to see is that whether they can go beyond their comfort levels and make it a huge success!

Iman Ali

Regarding the film it is also believed that Iman Ali who was the lead actress of Khuda kay liye will also be seen in the film along with Hadiqa Kiyani and Umamah Abbasi doing a cameo. The film is expected to release in October 2010.   Here’s hoping that the film is a huge success and is able to attract the audiences!

Are you saying too much?

Hey Guys! It’s been days since I’ve posted something..sorry! I’m so busy with school work. Anyways I’m back with a new post which I hope you’ll find interesting!

Did you know that 55% of your communication is done through your Body language which means that without saying anything, you may be conveying more than enough for others to judge! Body language consists of signals and postures and if understood and read correctly they will take you a long way. Our brains are programmed to read each other’s body language and people around you are perceiving so much by observing. I found these 7 ways to understand other people’s body language on the web, read on to find out!

1.Pay attention to how close someone is to you.

The closer they are, the warmer their opinions are of you. The farther away that someone is, the less they actually care of the situation or person. If you move slightly closer to them, do they move slightly further away? That means they don’t want your interaction to be any more personal than it already is. If they don’t move further away, then they are receptive. And if they respond by getting even closer to you, they probably really like you or are very comfortable around/by you.

2.Watch their head position.

Overly tilted heads are either a potential sign of sympathy, or if a person smiles while tilting their head, they are being playful and maybe even flirting.

Lowered heads indicate a reason to hide something. Take note if someone lowers their head. If it is when he is complimented, he may be shy, ashamed, timid, keeping distance from the other person, in disbelief, or thinking to himself. If it is after an explanation, then he may be unsure if what he said was correct.

Cocked heads mean that they are confused or challenging you, depending on eye, eyebrow, and mouth gestures. Think of how a dog slightly cocks its head when you make a funny noise.

3.Look into their eyes.

People who look to the sides a lot are nervous, lying, or distracted. However, if a person looks away from the speaker, it very well could be a comfort display or indicate submissiveness. Looking askance generally means the person is distrustful or unconvinced. If someone looks down at the floor a lot, they are probably shy or timid.

4.See if they’re mirroring you.

Mirroring is another common gesture. If someone mirrors, or mimics your appearance, this is a very genuine sign that they are interested in you and trying to establish rapport with you. Try changing your body position here and there. If you find that they change theirs similarly, they are mirroring.

5.Check their arms.

People with crossed arms are closing themselves to social influence. Though some people just cross their arms as a habit, it may indicate that the person is (slightly) reserved, uncomfortable with their weight (therefore trying to hide it), or just trying to hide something on their shirt. If their arms are crossed while their feet are shoulder width or wider apart, this is a position of toughness or authority.

If someone rests their arms behind their neck or head, they are open to what is being discussed or just laid back in general. If their hands are on their hips, they might be waiting or impatient.

6.Be aware of nervous gestures.

If someone brushes their hair back with their fingers, this may be preening, a common gesture if the person likes you, or their thoughts about something conflict with yours. They might not voice this. If you see raised eyebrows during this time, you can be pretty sure that they disagree with you.

If the person wears glasses, and is constantly pushing them up onto their nose again, with a slight frown, that may also indicate they disagree with what you are saying. Look to make sure they push up their glasses with an intent, not casually adjusting them. Look for pushing on the rim with two fingers, or an extra motion of wiggling the side of their glasses. The frown or raised eyebrows should tip you off.

Lowered eyebrows and squinted eyes illustrate an attempt at understanding what is being said or going on. It’s usually skeptical. This is presuming they are not trying to observe something that’s far away.

7.Watch their feet.

A fast tapping, shifting of weight, laughing, or movement of the foot will most often mean that the person is impatient, excited, nervous, scared, or intimidated.

If the person is sitting, feet crossed at the ankles means they’re generally at ease.If while standing, a person seems to always keep their feet very close together, it probably means they are trying to be “proper” in some way.If they purposely touch their feet to yours, they are flirting!

So that’s it! I hope you enjoyed learning some tricks and trades to understand people better and communicate effectively. Do give your feedback. Adios!

Ali Zafar Shaking up Bollywood!

After Tere bin laden’s roaring success, Ali Zafar is back in action with a bang but of course. He has been signed under Yash Raj banners by Aditiya Chopra for his next film which will be a directorial debut by Ali Abbas Zafar. Pretty similar names! It is believed the film will be a romantic comedy, oh and did I mention his costars are Katrina Kaif and Imran khan! Whoa!

The film was first offered to Ritesh Deshmukh who declined the role, I wonder why, but whatever the reason it’s the Pakistani who bags it.

According to Times of India, “Aditiya Chopra loved Tere Bin Laden. YRF is known to spot talented newcomers.  And as far as the actor Ali Zafar is concerned, the production house may sign him for at least three films.”

Ali Zafar sharing the details with Daily Express said, “Being offered by Yash Raj Films right after my first film is a great feeling. But I gave my nod after going through the plot and script of the film. It’s a big-budget family movie and I’m being cast for a lead role. The organization will also feature a new face in this film and the auditions are already in progress.”

On the prospects of his re-locating to Mumbai he said,”There are more avenues and prospects here. So if the God above and the politicians down below permit, I’d love to move to Mumbai. My first home is Lahore. But I’d like to make Mumbai my second home,” he told Times of India.

It’s a great feeling to see our artists venturing and succeeding across the borders and as far as singer turned actor Ali Zafar is concerned he has immense potential not to mention good looks,so all is left is to wait and   watch how far he goes! All the Best!

Ali Zafar-The next big thing?
